Combined Energy Report
Thermography plus Air Tightness Testing
Combining our building Air Tightness and Thermography technology we can produce a report on your buildings current thermal performance. The report is produced as a supplement to the Air Tightness Test where we leave the 'Blower Door' fan running at a set speed and inspect the building with our thermal infrared camera.
The camera records two images, one visual that our eyes can see and one infrared that our eyes can't see. In the visual photo we can identify where about in the building the image was taken, locate the problems and make suggestions to repair. In the infrared picture we see a pattern where the surface temperature indicates that an underlying problem may exist. With knowledge of the structure behind the surface we can understand what may be causing the anomaly and make suggestions for rectification.
Our report presents you with these paired images with suggestions for the effective repairs of the problem. During our Energy Report inspection we can identify three of the main causes of high energy use:
-
Air Leakage: Unwanted draughts, air enters or leaves the building
-
Wind Washing (Thermal Bypass): energy leaks due to air flow behind the internal surfaces and through or around any insulation material
-
Thermal Bridging: energy leaks directly through the structure, pointing to poor or missing insulation
Each one of the above adds to your energy usage, increasing your heating or cooling costs.
Benefits To You
We normally provide this service to clients wishing to install an Air Source Heat Pump, but our view is anyone can benefit from preventing heat loss, it should be conducted before replacing any heating system. Following the advice in the report could lead to:
-
Potentially smaller equipment size requirement, lower capital cost
-
Lower heating bills due to less heat loss, on-going savings
-
Better performance from ventilation system
-
Reduced chance of condensation and mould
-
Fewer or even eliminated draughts
-
Much improved comfort conditions with steady internal temperatures
-
Lower noise transmission from outside
-
Reduced cleaning due to less air-borne dust and dirt
-
Improved Indoor air quality
-
Building is quicker to heat up and slower to cool down
The cost of this report can be paid for by the savings on smaller equipment and savings on future running costs.
